Biography
Betty was born in Bakersfield , Calif. In 1944. To Raphel and Gladys Girado . She was born premature. Betty grew up in The Tehachapi mountains and surrounding areas. Betty is Native American. She was the last of 3 fluent elders who spoke the Kawaiisu language, She married Jim Hernandez in 1964. She is survived by her two children Merlene Renee Everson and Richard James Hernandez. Four grand children and Three great grandchildren. Her son in law Chris Everson As well as her brother and sister, Luther Ralph Girado and Lucille Girado Hicks. Ms. Hernandez was strong her christian faith. She was currently working with elders and grant writers in order to preserve her dying language. Ms. Hernandez passed peacefully in her sleep from a long illness. She will be sorely missed.
