Lou worked with my dad, Bill Vogt, at Firestone in Brook Park , Ohio in the early 1960s. My earliest memories are of Mom & I going to play with Tove and Laurie. Tove loved winter sports and I recall skating on the Rocky River as a four-year-old with the kids and her. Later both families moved to Akron and we had many adventures in the woods behind the Kasischke's house, blazing trails and bringing blackberries home to Tove to be served back to us and gobbled down with milk and sugar. One perfect summer day was spent in our magical "Ship", a large fallen hardwood tree we'd discovered. We had commissioned reluctant big brother Marc to be Captain, and he whipped the 2-girl crew of the glorious clipper into shape. I cannot recall a happier childhood memory. Another time we were playing in the basement and were frightened by a haunted moaning drifting through the downstairs. We raced breathlessly upstairs to tell Tove, who appeared oblivious to the banshee's wails and intently busy in the kitchen. We returned to the basement in a state of nervous anxiety to be spooked again, and pounded upstairs once more. Tove was having a hard time concealing her mirth by then and clearly not taking the poltergeist in the basement seriously. No matter how quickly we raced upstairs, we never caught her running through the house returning from the distant clothes chute, or discovered another duct or vent through which she could've been making the hair raising noise. She would not tell us how she was tricking us, but with a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes and a toss of her long gold hair, she did agree, in her Norwegian accent, that she was a magical "Vitch". We also had some wonderful times on the expansive home-made ice rink in the back yard, taking dance lessons (a year older and destined for height, I was the "Prince" and Laurie the "Princess" in our tap dancing routine at ages 4 and 5), shopping downtown where we loved to twirl our skirts on the "Stage" of the tailor's d

I first met Tove a few years ago when we out on the lake for a boat ride. She was always smiling. As she got off the boat, she hugged me and said "Thank You." Tove was always a gracious lady. I will miss her.

Laurie and I have been friends for many years and she has ALWAYS spoken very fondly and with love for her parents.I met Tove recently when when she moved to Santa Fe. Although she couldn't speak well, Her smile and a wave of her hand was a great pleasure.

Dear Marc and Laurie,
How sorry I am to hear of your mother's passing. Laurie, I want you to know how much I think of your efforts at taking care of Tove for the past three years. That had to be a labor of love. I know that Lou did that for many years and I am sure that it took a tool on Lou also. I am sure that Tove is now at peace and is with your father again.

Tove and Lou were friends of ours in Venezuela. We spent many a Saturday enjoying the islands off the coast with their family and ours, especially when our older children came there on vacations from college. I have fond memories of our good times together.

Tove was such a strong, loving person! Even when she couldn't talk, you could see the love in her eyes, looking at her grandchildren. We will all miss her.

My favorite " laurie's mom" story took place a little after they moved to Santa Fe. Laurie and and I were going on one of our fishing trips. I asked "mom" of she was going to be okay while we were gone. "I hope so," she said. Laurie then told her we would be back in about 6 hours. she replied, "6 Days???" She was so cute and so sweet.
May she rest in peace.
