Robert Houseman

Robert Houseman, 80, of Winterset, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset and burial will immediately follow in the Peru Cemetery in Peru. Robert Vernon Housman, the son of Edgar and Helen (Roush) Houseman, was born September 29, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. His marriage to Rosetta Marie Miller took place on February 25, 1966 in Peru.

During his working career, Robert mainly worked for Sunbeam in Des Moines and retired from Cooper Trucking where he had been a driver and dispatcher. In his free time, Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and race cars. He also played and coached men’s league fast pitch softball. Above, all else, Robert would most wish to be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than time spent with his family.

Robert is survived by three children, Rick Houseman of Winterset, Nick Houseman of Earlham, and LuAnn Goodell of Orlando, FL; five stepchildren, Allen Akers (Patty) of Winterset, Annette Dillinger (Bill) of Peru, Connie Baker (Dave) of Winterset, Gene Akers (Rhonda) of Winterset, and Karen Akers of Winterset; 20 grandchildren (Susan Crowdes, Jimmy Akers, Billi Jo Akers, Christopher Akers, Verl (Sonny) Dillinger, Regina Weig, Dave Baker, Mike Akers, Raymond Akers, Jeremiah Akers, Raymond (Nick) England, Melissa Houseman, Robert Houseman, Marie Jurgenson, Travis Houseman, Tasha Houseman, Brandon Houseman, Tyrell Houseman, Cody Houseman, Felicia Goodell), 33 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Rosetta who died on December 1, 2010; a son, Marty Houseman; a sister, Norma Oglesbee and 2 grandchildren, Jason Gale and Jessie Akers.
