Mary Hughes

Mary Hughes, 78, of Winterset died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, October 28 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A visitation with family present will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, prior to services. Burial will be held at a later date in the Wight Cemetery, Webster Township, Madison County, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Mary Phillippa Accordino was born May 13, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa; the daughter of Charles and Mary (Jennings) Accordino. Her marriage to Keith LaVern Hughes took place in Des Moines on May 21, 1959 and to this union five children were born. Keith preceded her in death on February 6, 2000.
Mary worked as a devoted daycare provider in her home for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW and the Hobby Club. She was a good seamstress and enjoyed collecting music boxes. But more than anything, Mary loved her family and greatly enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, David Hughes (Ann) of Macksburg; Anthony Hughes of Winterset; Mary Ann McLain of Des Moines; Debbie Rice of Winterset; and Jerry Hughes (Joni) of Lacona; siblings, Anthony Accordino of Yorbalida, CA, Carl Accordino of Stanton, CA, Agnes Rice of Huntington Beach, CA, Arlie May Kasick of Emmitt, CA, Tami Adams of Palm Desert, CA, and Iona Batkin of Altoona, IA; 13 grandchildren, Brandee, Marjorie, Amber, April, Logan, Arielle, Halee, Nicolas, Jordan, Robert, Corben, Brooklyn, and Ryder; and 5 great-grandchildren, Spencer, Gabriel, Tatum, Jadyn, and Makenzie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; an infant daughter, Cathy; siblings, Madonna Longbrake, Carol Ammons, and Carmela Accordino.
