Margaret Montoya

March 27th, 1946 - October 5th, 2017

Biography

We are here on a solemn occasion to bid farewell to Margaret in prayers,
as we knew her. It is a sad occasion and also a joyous one, for Margaret has found relief and in our faith has gone to be with our Savior Jesus Christ.
Margaret passed away at her home on October 5, 2017. Margaret Garcia de Montoya was born March 27, 1946. Her parents were Thomas Garcia and Eligia Mondragon Garcia. She was seventh in birth order in a family of ten. She grew up enjoying having older and younger siblings. Margaret was baptized in the Catholic Faith. She grew up in Ranchos de Taos. She attended St. Francis School, Central Catholic and graduated from Taos High School. Margaret was a good daughter to her parents and a good sister to her siblings. She met Atilano
Augustin Montoya while in high school. They married on May 5, 1964. They were blessed with three children, Clifford, Steven, and a daughter Devonne. They have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a career woman, having worked as a legal secretary and a secretary in the banking industry. She was also Deputy County Treasurer for 8 years and worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 19 years, where she achieved a grade step 12 as budget analyst. Margaret left her employment due to illness in 1999. Margaret was a wonderful cook, a well accomplished seamstress and had her own sewing business, “The Orange Blossom Bridal Shop” where she made many many bridal and party dresses. She also enjoyed painting landscapes, and left several paintings for her family. Margaret liked flowers and enjoyed the outdoors, especially the fall colors. It is impossible to sum up her life in a few moments; she lived well, accomplished a lot and laughed often. She and Atilano practiced their faith. They served as mayordomos of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish for 12 years. They were Eucharistic ministers to the sick in the hospital and to the homebound. She and Atilano built their home in El Prado where they lived and raised their children. Margaret is survived by four siblings; three sisters, Esther, Rose, Gloria and one brother, Leroy as well as many nieces and nephews. Her immediate family, husband Atilano Augustin, sons Clifford and Steven and daughter Devonne, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. also survive her. The family would like to thank those who provided support to Margaret and the family by visiting, with prayers and well wishes during her long illness. We wish to thank 3 very special women who cared for Margaret during her many years of great need. They are Pauline Mascarenas, Gloria Mandala, and Maria Helena Vidaure. A very heart felt thank you to Atilano’s sister Viola and Yolanda for their unwavering support and encouragement to Atilano and to her caregivers. Again thank you all for accompanying us. Some advice to all, both young and old, who have living parents is that you shower them with love, affection, and respect while they are still alive. Thank you.

Rosary/Prayer service were held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 6 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
