Leroy "chico" Ramirez

Leroy Joseph Ramirez, “Chico,” 45 of Santa Fe, New Mexico, departed to a new frontier on October 30, 2016. He journeyed unexpectedly onward, leaving behind his beloved family and friends. Traveling the world was Chico’s passion in life, and he moved like a beam of light from East to West .His open-mindedness and playful personality earned him lasting friendships everywhere he wandered. He had recently relocated to Montevideo, Uruguay where he followed in his fathers and grandfathers footsteps as a property owner and manager. Prior to living in South America, he taught English in the United Arab Emirates for 10 years. Over the course of his short but driven life, Chico navigated all corners of the world, sharing his insightful experiences and leaning about humanity. He was a philosophical, creative spirit who enjoyed long strolls with his dogs Maggie and Marco, biking in the great outdoors, playing tennis and swimming, and creating politically and socially themed pop art pieces informed by his experiences and knowledge of today’s world.
Chico is survived by his soul mate Lisa Marie Lavelle, his parents Leroy Jr. and Mary Louise; his sister Lei Rae and her husband Sergio Laberer; his aunts and uncles Judy and Dr. Carlos Ramirez, Marcella and Gerald Ortiz, Leroy Ramirez Sr. and Belina; maternal grandparents Alfredo Ortiz and Consuelo ; his great grandmother Rose Ortiz. His vibrant soul will always be a luminous ray of like in our hearts. Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi on Monday, November 21at 9:45am.
