Lee Roy was a brave and loyal soldier, a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he selflessly and honorably served our country. Lee Roy was a true patriot in every sense of the word who truly loved his country.
For me, respect and admiration is something that has to be earned. Lee Roy truly earned respect through his living example of love and devotion to his family, friends and whoever he met. If there is pain, it is the sting that lives within us here today who remain behind. We have to grapple with the loss. We have to face the sorrow of the wonderful life that has left us, but we don’t have to face it alone. We have each other— a wonderful gift.
I’ve often heard that death is healing, and I can feel the healing process already taking place for all of us that are left behind. Lee Roy is in a better place now, where there is no more pain, and no more suffering.
Lee Roy, may God welcome you into his kingdom, and grant you eternal rest and peace.
God’s speed be with you my brother in arms.
