Katherine Bowman

June 5th, 1980 - January 14th, 2010

Biography

Katherine Louise (Yetter) Bowman was born June 5, 1980 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Samuel and Lois (Ralston) Yetter. She graduated from Earlham High School in 1998 and attended DMACC, where she studied photography. Her marriage to Jerod Bowman took place on July 15, 2006 at the Crossroad Evangelical Free Church in Earlham and to this union a son, Nathan, was born. Survivors include her husband, Jerod Bowman of Winterset; her son, Nathan at home; two stepchildren, Mariah and Bryce Bowman of Winterset; her mother, Lois Yetter of Earlham; a brother, Ben Yetter and his wife, Hannah of Earlham; a niece, Jenna Yetter; a grandfather, Herbert Yetter of Big Springs, NE; and several aunts, uncles and extended families. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel; grandparents Russell and Olive Ralston; and a grandmother, Winnie Yetter. As a child, Katherine was involved in 4-H and each summer attended the Hidden Acres Christian Camp, where she later volunteered as a counselor. After high school, Katherine was a waitress at the West End Diner where customers and coworkers would often comment on her fun loving friendly personality. She also worked for a time at Breeding's True Value in Winterset and the Madison County Iowa State Extension Office where she was in charge of the 4-H program. Katherine's passion was photography and she devoted much of her time capturing the world through the lens of her camera. Katherine also loved the Lord and wanted to share His glory with others. One of the ways she chose to share the Word of God was through mission work. She traveled four times to Brazil as a missionary, three times before she was married and once with Jerod after their marriage. Katherine was devoted to serving the Lord and caring for her family. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother and stepmother who will be deeply missed. Katherine was a member of the Word of Life Family Church.

Katherine died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 29.

Visitation: 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Word of Life Family Church, (Hwy 169) Winterset.

Memorial: Memorials to the family may be made in her name (The Katherine Bowman Memorial).

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Katherine through the Take 12 program with the EFCAIM. During our 2 week training, we were roommates prior to our experiences abroad that summer. We had kept in touch and when we returned she had trips to the twin cities for work with either paint/hardware store stuff or a tournament up in Blaine for her step- children. We kept in touch. I remember the day she called to tell me she was pursuing photography, and knowing i do that as well, called to tell me she quite her job to pursue it full time! She ws so excited about it! She loved her husband and the marriage they had and shared that with me as well. Her excitement about her soon birth of Nathan showed clearly as well! I am so sorry to hear the news of what the cancer has done. She was so sweet and caring and I will never forget her kind heart. She had a great laugh too! Her smile was contagious! She will always be remembered! You are in my prayers. Stephanie

So very sorry Katherine's productive, caring life was so brief. Peg and I moved to Earlham in 1973, attended church with Russell and Olive the four years we lived there, and were close friends of Bill and Rosemary. I sang in the choir with Red Morris and played tennis several times with Lois when she was home visiting from Atlantic. Our thoughts are with you during your grieving.

She truly was a special person, a delight to be around. We especially enjoyed the time spent with her working on the 4-H program, not only as a 4-H member but as the 4-H extension specialist. She was such a bright, cheerful, energetic, and caring individual. A great void is now left in your life and the lives of all who loved, enjoyed, and respected her. Mike & Dixie

We grieve your loss dear family of Katherine. Her love for God and her Savior Jesus Christ was evident in her words as well as her life. Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin which so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race which is marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, scorning its shame, and set down at the right hand of the throne of God Hebrews 12:1-2 May the memory of her race run by her faith in Christ inspire many to glorify Him with their lives as well.
