Johnny Jay Burgess, 61, Des Moines, died August 5, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

No services are scheduled in Iowa and burial will be at a later date at the Taylors Cross Roads Church in Alabama. Memorials may be directed to the family. On line condolences may be directed to the family via www.ochiltree.com.

Johnny was born in LaGrange, GA on February 23, 1949 the son of Amos and Minnie (Hall) Burgess. He grew up in LaGrange and moved to Iowa where he lived for 30 years.

Johnny owned Metro Plumbing and Heating in Des Moines, Iowa. He loved repairing engines.

Johnny is survived by his two children Johnny Jr., Burgess of Milltown, AL, and Heath Amos Burgess of Ft. Madison, IA; his siblings, Theresa (James) Clark of Winterset, IA; Doris (Ray) Staples of Roanoke, AL; Larry Joe (Barbara) Burgess of Woodland, AL; one grandson, Cody Burgess; a niece Christina Wadle and nephew Timothy Wadle of Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Bobby Burgess.
