Dr. Jerry Larsen, 84, of Winterset, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Ochiltree Funeral Service, where his family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with burial to follow the luncheon at the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com
Jerry Lee Larsen, son of Harold and Carrie (Sorensen) Larsen, was born January 27, 1931 in Rutland, Iowa. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1948. Jerry was united in marriage with Joyce Sorlien on July 17, 1951 at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Five children were born to this union.
Jerry entered the Navy and served during the Korean Conflict on the USS Towhee as a sonar operator. Following his military service, Jerry attended the University of Iowa and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1959. Jerry and Joyce moved to Winterset and opened his dental practice above the Harrison Five & Dime. He practiced dentistry for over 42 years before retiring in 2002. Jerry was also a farmer, who loved spending time with his family on the farm. He had a lively wit and an entrepreneurial spirit. Activities that he enjoyed included acting, playing cards, and socializing with friends. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Apple Tree Players, the American Legion Post 184, the American Dental Association, the American Hypnosis Association, and was a past member of the Winterset School Board. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time spent with family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Larsen of Winterset; children, David (Micki) Larsen of Ogden, Paul Larsen of Carlisle, Brian (Deb) Larsen of Adel, Timothy (Greta) Larsen of Des Moines, and Suzanne (Tom) Busta of Adel; 13 grandchildren: Melissa (Erik) Hansen, Kelly (Ben) Rider, Bryce ( Kristyne) Larsen, Mandy (William) Matlock-Tolson, Evan Larsen, Hannah Larsen, Matt Larsen, Brock Larsen, Sidney Larsen, Gunner Larsen, Morgan Busta, Brynn Busta, Dylan Busta; five great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne (Bill) Euler of Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Pat Larsen of Mobile, AL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Larsen.

Joyce,Dave, Paul, Brian, Tim and Suzanne, so sorry for your loss. 30 years later I still have very fond memory's of the Larsen household and all the time I was lucky enough to spend with all the family members including Papa Doc, he will be missed for sure. I can still see him standing in front of your home, bib overalls rolled up with high-top Chucky's (Converse) on ready to play in our football games.
