Jack Bishop

Jack Noel Bishop, at age 91 passed away peacefully at his home in Santa Fe
surrounded by his loving family on January 3, 2014.

Jack was born in Los Angeles, CA on May 13, 1923 to Arthur and Dorothy
Bishop.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Bishop, his brother Warren, his four
children Ymelda, Eric, Celeste, Roland, step daughter Kathy, and 12
grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, as well as numerous great
grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter Linea.

At age 18, Jack enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in the Pacific
Theater during WWII as a gunners mate. He earned 5 battle stars aboard
the ship USS Suamico in the liberation of the Philippines. Jack also
bravely fought in the battle of Midway and witnessed the raising of the
American flag on Iwo Jima.

Upon being honorably discharged at the conclusion of the war, Jack studied
at the Parsons School of Art under the GI bill. This led to a 32 year
career as a technical draftsman for the Northrop Corporation in Los
Angeles.

During this time, Jack raised his five beloved children in Manhattan
Beach, California. As a devoted father he enjoyed family camping trips,
going to the beach, and his love of arts and culture.

Upon his retirement, he pursued his passion in trading American Indian Art
and opened the J.N. Bishop gallery in Los Angeles with his second wife
Barbara, his soul mate and love of his life. They owned the gallery for
15 years and because of their deep interest in Indian arts and culture,
led them to relocate to Santa Fe, NM.

Over the next 23 years, Jack and Barbara made many friends in the
Southwest while continuing their passion for trading and collecting
indigenous art.

Jack was a very special person and his vast knowledge of history and arts
never ceased to amaze those who had the privilege to meet him. His warm
and loving nature, as well as his wonderful sense of humor made everyone
feel very special. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff and workers from the Del Corazon
Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their caring assistance.

Jack will be given a full military service which will be held on Friday,
January 9, 2015 at 10:30am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
