Elmo Cde Baca

Biography

Long time Los Alamos resident, Elmo Cde Baca passed away on Saturday in his home. He was 88 years old.

He was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico, graduating with a degree in Biology from Highlands University. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a medical corpsman.

Elmo began his life on the hill as a Zia company painter. Throughout his life he has owned a variety of successful Los Alamos businesses and has developed commercial property throughout the downtown area. He worked his whole life to try to make the county codes more development friendly. In the last decade he donated a significant property to the Los Alamos schools for their administration offices.

Elmo loved the art of the deal and was well respected for his business acumen and sense of humor. He loved telling or hearing a good joke, especially on hunting and fishing trips, which were cut short by arthritis. He loved the outdoors and spent a good deal of time trying to find ways to escape to the woods and rivers. He shared hunting adventures with good friends throughout Northern New Mexico and knew the land from peak to valley.

Elmo was preceded in death by his adopted son John Cde Baca and parents Tony and Tillie Baca. He is survived by his biological children Mark Cde Baca of Mission Viejo, CA, Shannon Cde Baca of Omaha, Nebraska, his adopted daughter Terry Cde Baca of Espanola, longtime companion Phyllis Wickline, daughter-in-laws Barbara Cde Baca and Lavonne Pierson and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Elmo was a loving father, grandfather and a loyal friend.

Elmo requested that there be no service. His wish was that friends and family remember his life by telling stories, holding tight to loved ones and celebrating a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elmos name to the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses.

The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation your kind expression of sympathy during this difficult time.

It is so sad to read that Mr. C de Baca has passed away in death. May your memories of him as well as a hope of being reunited one day – John 5:28, 29 – bring you the peace and comfort you need at this time.
