Donnie Brokmeyer

December 19th, 1960 - March 26th, 2017

Biography

Donald L. Brokmeyer “Donnie B”
Entrepreneur, Skier, Chef, Kayaker

Donnie, 56, passed away on March 26, 2017 at 4:10 am. Donnie loved the outdoors, exploring life on rivers and in the mountains. He enjoyed listening to live music and traveling. He will be missed.

Donnie was born in Michigan on December 19, 1960 to Donald Brokmeyer and Lorraine Graham. A middle child, he is survived by his older sister, Julie Brokmeyer, and younger brother, Andrew Brokmeyer. He moved to Crested Butte, Colorado, where he attended Fort Lewis College, and then he relocated to Durango where he raised his two girls Nicole Carsley and Kristin Brokmeyer. In 1994, he moved to Taos, New Mexico, where he began working at the Boot Doctors in the ski valley in the winter and giving kayak instructions and running rafting trips in the summer. He was owner and proprietor of Surfs Up LLC, a catering and kayaking business. Last October, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and, although he fought valiantly, he died peacefully at home surrounded with the love of his friends and family. He is survived by his true love of 18 years, Molly Mainelli, the family mentioned above, his stepmother, Sandy Brokmeyer, and his niece and nephew-in-law, Navi and Matt Fuemmeler and many, many friends.

A private ceremony was held at Rivera Funeral home. A celebration of life will be held in April on the Rio Grande, the date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers Donnie would want us to support the Field Institute of Taos. Donations are accepted on the phone by calling 575-770-2391 or on their website fitaos.org.
