Donald M. Young

Donald M. Young, 73, of Winterset, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at his home. Donald was born in Madison County, Iowa on December 7, 1931, the son of Earl E. and Vera (Jennings) Young. His marriage to Barbara Fuller took place on August 31, 1952 in Madison County. He is preceded in death by his father, Earl and a grandson, Josh. Donald was life long area resident and was a farmer most of his adult life. He served his country during the Korean War while enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign War Post 8142, Winterset, the Macksburg United Methodist Church, Macksburg and the Macksburg Bar Coffee Club, Mackburg. Donald loved horses and horse back riding. He was a collector of many things such as belt buckles, barbwire, wrenches and more... He always said a man was lucky if he had a good dog, a good horse and a good woman. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Winterset; his mother Vera Young of Winterset; 2 sons, Kenneth Young and wife, Julie of Grinnell and Bryan Young and wife, Jacque of Des Moines; 3 daughters, Denise Kirkland and husband, Ronald of Macksburg, Vikki Weeks and husband, Dale of Winterset, and Barbi and Brian Kirscher of Lorimor; 2 brothers, Bill Young and wife, Ruth of Winterset and Eddie Young and wife, Gail of Pacific Junction; 2 sisters, Enolia Buck and husband, Sam of Winterset and Sheryl Griffith and husband, Thomas of Seattle, Washington; eleven grandchildren, Kendra - Kelsie - Daniel and wife, Heidi - Matthew and wife, Sarah - James and wife, Shelly - Dusty and friend, Nikki - Gregory - Jessica and husband, Brent - Nicole - Brooke - Michelle and a great grandchild, Austin.

10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2005 at the Macksburg United Methodist Church.

Visitation: Moon Cemetery, rural Macksburg with military honors performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and the American Legion Post 184 of Winterset.

Service: Memorials may be directed to the family.

Memorial: 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, where family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., August 18, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare.
