Dixie was a talented basketball player and played on the varsity high school team for four years. She graduated in 1955 from Winterset High School and entered nursing training at St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1958. In December 1958, Dixie married Robert M. As an Air Force wife, Dixie spent thirty years living with her family at various Air Force bases, including three years in Zaragoza, Spain. She also practiced as a Civil Service nurse at various military installations and was a school nurse in Omaha. In 1989, upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, the family returned to Winterset where Dixie was employed by Farmers and Merchants State Bank. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, The Madison County Antique Association, The Madison County Historical Society and Progressive Study Club.
Dixie was an avid basketball fan and also enjoyed cross-stitch, flower gardening and watching the birds enjoy her garden. Above all else, Dixie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved any time spent with her family.

I was saddened to learn of Dixie's homegoing. She was always a "lady" that many admired. May you cherish the memories she helped us to have . God's blessings and comfort.

Auntie Dixie, I always loved to see you and be with you. I thought of you as the 'glamorous Auntie Dixie' and looked up to you. I always thought that if I took a bit of you and behaved as you might then I would be a good person. Of course, I had to take a bit of Auntie Marilyn, Auntie Ars and Uncle Bud, too!!! So, I guess there wasn't much hope for me. Love you always...
