Biography


Corinne Valerio, 95, of Taos, also known as Sister Francisquita passed away on April 15, 2012. She was born in Taos to Jose de Jesus Valerio and Francisquita Valerio. Corinne lived in Taos until 1934 when she left her home in Taos to join the religious order of the Dominican Sisters in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For most of 35 years she lived in Grand Rapids and Detroit Michigan and taught Elementary School at Holy Rosary Academy and other schools there. She also taught in Penasco, Santa Cruz, and Belen NM. In 1969 she left the convent and returned to New Mexico and worked in the public schools. She taught at the Santo Domingo Pueblo for 6 years and at the Ranchos de Taos Elementary School for 7 years before she retired. After retirement she traveled to Europe, South America and Hawaii with relatives. Corinne is preceded in death by her parents, Jose de Jesus Valerio and Francisquita Valerio, brothers, Juan de Dios Valerio, Hipolito Valerio, Vicente Valerio, and Victor Valerio, sisters, Maria Juana Tafoya, Mary Gusdorf, Eloisa Gonzales, Selma Lavadie, and Delfina Herrera, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her niece and caregiver Lupe Rodarte, Cordy Shad-Bagwell, Eduardo Duran, Frank Gusdorf, Corine Mondragon, Edna Carmichael, Ted Gusdorf, Frank Gonzales, Benito Gonzales, Dorthey Gonzales, Pablo Gonzales, Cristina Vigil, Frances Montoya, Leoma Coughner, Loretta Lavadie, Porfiria Gonzales, Sibilina Aragon, Tomasita Mondragon, Felipe Valerio, Corina Martinez, Eli Tafoya, Loren Sanchez, Celina Romero, Gilbert Tafoya, Walter Herrera, Victoria Diana Trujillo, Patsy Fresquez, Joaquin Herrera, Victor Herrera, Carmella Martinez, Francella Vasquez and many grand and great-grandnephews and nieces. The family would like to thank all of those who have supported us with your love and kindness.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with interment to follow at the San Francisco Cemetery.
