Basilio "Buster" Romero Torres

Basil R. "Buster" Torres, 87, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 15, 2009 in Alamogordo. Basil was born Dec. 29, 1921 in Valverde, N.M., son of Fabian and Aurelia (Romero) Torres.

He married Amy Delgadillo on Dec. 7, 1946 in Socorro. She survives him. They were married for sixty-three years. He was the oldest of five siblings. He is survived by Annalee Walters and Rosie Shaffer and was preceded in death by Jennie Garcia and Fabian Torres.

He leaves his brother-in-law, Tomas V. Delgadillo and Porfie Shaffer; nephews, Tommy Lee Delgadillo and Donny Walters; nieces, Ruby Browning, Janette Daniels, Lisa Mesa and husband, Paula Fajardo and husband, Dolores Blatchford and husband, Kenneth, Loyola Torres and Terri Barraza; sister-in-law, Perfecta Torres; son, Justin Larry Torres, grandson Justin Torres, Jr.; great-grandchildson, Callan Basil Torres.

He worked in the CCC's in the 1930's. He served in the European Theater Army Division during World War II from June 19, 1942, to Dec. 6, 1945. He retired from the U.S. Air Force hospital at Holloman A.F.B. in 1984, after thirty-three years of employment.

A Rosary will be recited at 1 p.m., Nov. 30, 2009, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel by Deacon Don Dickman followed by military honors provided by the U.S. Army.

The Torres family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
