Atellia Ann Berg

July 30th, 1922 - November 15th, 2016

Biography

Attellia Ann Berg age 94, a resident of Los Altos and Mt. View, CA from 1965 – 2016 and most recently of Santa Fe, New Mexico passed away early Tuesday morning, November 15, 2016. After struggling valiantly in recent years with the crippling effects of osteoarthritis, she is free from the challenges of mortality.
Attellia was born July 30, 1922 in Klickitat, Washington to Vera Jaquetta Child and Francis Freeman Vause. She was married at 19 to Gordon H. Berg of Portland, Oregon. She met Gordon, and Army-Air Corps pilot in Pendleton, Oregon where her family lived and Gordon was training in B-25’s in 1941. Attellia had been a student at Reed College in Portland and was home for the summer. Following their marriage in January of 1942, the newlyweds moved to the East Coast for further preparation for his participation in the war. As Gordon flew bombing missions out of India, Attellia returned to the West Coast and attended Stanford University for a year. Fortunately, Gordon survived the war. His career in the Air Force offered many travel opportunities which were enjoyed by Attellia and Gordon for more than 20 years. Attellia loved to travel and her love of literature and art from her youth flourished with those opportunities. Each of her children has at least one of her paintings. She was the mother of five children. The saddest experience of her life was the loss of her first daughter, Sydney, who died in a car accident when she was just 16. The most joyful day in Attellia’s life was when she and Gordon and their 5 children were sealed in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for time and all eternity in 1968. Gordon, who passed away in 1995, has waited more than 22 years for Attellia to be with him again. She will be buried next to him and Sydney in Arlington National Cemetery in the coming days.
Attellia is preceded in death by her daughter Sydney Louise Berg, husband Gordon H. Berg and second husband Victor Doherty. She is survived by her sons Robert G. Berg, Steven C. Berg, Gordon F. Berg and daughter Janet S. Richards.
