Arturo " Dennis" Montoya

1957 - February 17th, 2019

Biography

Arturo “Dennis” Montoya, age 61, passed away on February 17, 2019, at home, in El Prado, New Mexico. He is survived by his parents, Arturo and Eufracia Montoya, of El Prado, sister, Michelle Montoya Kozel (Kevin) and nephew Nick Kozel. In addition, he leaves behind many relatives and friends, from both the Taos area, and from the many places he lived and visited in the USA and worldwide. Growing up, he loved adventure and enjoyed backpacking, camping, hunting, and spending time exploring the outdoors. He was proud to be a veteran after serving in the Army. During his enlistment, he was part of a team supporting the Cobra Helicopter squad. He continued his quest for adventure by traveling throughout Europe. When he was young, he helped his grandfather with farming and ranching, which guided him for future service in the Peace Core as an agriculture specialist. Upon returning to Taos, he worked with his father assisting him to conduct land surveys around Taos County. He also worked at the Taos Ski Valley and Quail Ridge. He loved to laugh and spend time reminiscing with friends (THS Class of 1976) and many cousins and will be remembered as a happy-go-lucky person and kind person to many.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 9:45 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with internment at the Santa Fe
National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home, Taos. To share a memory, please visit our website at www.riverafuneralhome.com

50 years ago Dennis, Jon Pattison, and I comprised the celebrity threesome at the old (abandoned) Taos Country Club on the way to Arroyo Seco. Although he and I never sat in the same classroom, Dennis visited our house more often than any other of my peers. I will never forget the reception he received from our Great Dane after he endeavored to peak at her litter. Only time I ever saw Dennis really run! I would have too, if PD had been chasing me. Pity I did not know he was in Europe. Would have been a pleasure to have had him as a guest in our house. With any luck, we will meet again some shiny day. Looking forward to that day, Ben López

How sad Dennis passed away. We would see him walking by Conoco gas station and. also going to Toribios with his dog. Mitch would stop and chat with him. Dennis was such a nice person and he will be missed. Our condolences to his dad Arturo and to his mom Facha and to all his family. God bless you ! Mitch and Lorretta Gonzales
