Allen Willis Shahan was born in Orient, Iowa on December 23, 1934 to Warren and Mayme (Welker) Shahan. When he was young, his family moved to Missouri and he graduated from Greentop High School in Greentop, MO. He went on to receive his BS Degree in Business from Northeast Missouri State University and received his MA Degree from the University of Iowa. His marriage to Janice Kay Montgomery took place at the Kirksville Christian Church in Kirksville, MO on May 20, 1962 and to this union two sons were born.
He was a business teacher most of his working years. He began his career in Illinois at Gem City College in Quincy and later at Clayton Community School in Clayton. Later, he worked in Iowa at the Waco Community School and Centerville Community School in Centerville where he worked for 30 years.
Allen loved the outdoors and hunted turkey and deer. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and working on his acreage where he planted and tended to hundreds of trees. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved nothing more than spending time with family and he especially enjoyed following all the sporting activities of his sons and grandchildren.
Allen is survived by his wife, Janice Shahan; sons, Jeff Shahan and Greg (Melissa) Shahan all of Winterset; and four grandchildren, Allen, Erika, Taylor and Molly Shahan. He is further survived by siblings, Eloise Greater of Independence and Don (Marilyn) Shahan of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Shahan of Kansas City; a brother-in-law, James (Kayla) Montgomery of Mystic; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lyle (Evelyn) Shahan, Melvin (Dorothy) Shahan and Dale Shahan; sister, Velma (Alva) Erwin; and a brother-in-law, Duane Greater.

I didn't know Alan but he must have been a good husband father and grandfather having Janice as his bride. My heart is sad knowing that you are hurting so much but rest assured it will not be for long for you will see him again soon. God bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear that Buster passed away this morning, but thank God that he is no longer suffering. I know the heartache you all are feeling, and I share it with you. He was without a doubt the kindest, most loving uncle a gal could ever have, and he always gave such wonderful hugs. Keep in touch and let me know if I can do anything to ease your pain. I love you all.
