Biographie

Maria Esther Garcia, age 79 of Ranchos de Taos, passed into eternal peace on January 14, 2018. Esther had a long career as a teacher in the Saginaw, Michigan public and parochial schools. She also had several teaching assignments as a professed sister of the Dominican order. Esther lived a full life and especially loved traveling, painting and woodworking. Esther is preceded in death by her parents Tomas and Eligia Garcia; her brothers,Tomas, Jr., Gilbert, Francis and Mike Garcia; sisters Corrine Vargas and Margaret Montoya. She is survived by her brother Leroy (Esther) Garcia and sisters Rose (Max) Tafoya and Gloria Garcia, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved dog Smokey.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where a Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Jesus Nazareno Cemetery in Ranchos.

I had the pleasure of meeting Esther this past Fall I enjoyed sitting with her..holding her hand..She tried hard to communicate with me...I know what her Family and Cheryl went through I lost my Mother to the same thing last summer..Prayers for her Family.Heaven has a New Angel...

I remember Maria with great fondness and gratitude. She was a good friend with Sr. Yvonne Richard and later was a good friend and kind to my own sister, Kathleen, who needed assistance due to post polio effect. This was in Essexville, Michigan and Maria was a godsend many times. May she Rest In Peace.

Esther was a special woman. I so remember her in our days as young Sisters going to Aquinas College and living at the House of Studies. So glad she became a Dominican Associate later. I'm sure God was all smiles when she entered the Kingdom.
