Biografía

Joslyn M. Garcia passed away January 17, 2017. She was born in New York City on August 16, 1956.

The daughter of immigrants from the Caribean, Joslyn graduated from Farmingdale College in New York. She later moved to California, and in 1988 married Robert I. Garcia, and lived in Capitola. She owned her own bookkeeping business, and was an avid long distance runner. She completed seven marathons, and many other races. She served on the Boards of many not-for-profit organizations, including the Santa Cruz AIDS Project, and the Tandy Beal Dance Company. She loved Jazz, and was very proud to have the Monterey Jazz Festival as a client.

In 1999 she and Robert moved to Santa Fe. She loved the opportunity to run in our high mountains, and also became an accomplished horse back rider. She was a member of the Santa Fe Striders, the Back Country Horsemen, and the Seniors on Bikes.

In 2008 she became ill with early onset dementia.

She was a kind, gentle, intelligent, strong woman, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, brother John Mingo (Christine) of Hawaii, her nephew Joshua Mingo, her niece Kamara Mingo, and many dear cousins who were really like sisters and brothers to her.

Her smile, laughter and joy for life will be remembered by all who knew her.

Donations may be made in her memory to Planned Parenthood.

Rosario published a tribute .

To Bob and all of Joslyn's loved ones, she indeed will have a spot in the hearts of all the running friends she had as part of the "Women of the Forest". We have celebrated her life in the Nisene Marks park (our forest) and are confident she runs joyfully and free now. Love, Rosario
