Helen Bartlett

Biografía

Helen Hasler Bartlett of Mansfield, Ohio, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Taos, NM, her hands held by her children and grandchildren. Helen was born in Cresson, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1922. After going to high school at The Grier School, she attended Wellesley College where she graduated with honors in 1944 with a B.A. in Chemistry. Post college, she worked in the polymer lab at DuPont Laboratories in Wilmington, Delaware, where she met her husband, Edward (Ted) Bartlett. From there, they followed Ted’s work, living in North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, before finding their home in Mansfield in 1963. Helen had a wide range of friends, interests, hobbies, and talents. She was a passionate bridge player and treasured the time that she played with her friends. She golfed, played tennis, and skied for many years. She traveled the world with Ted, visiting all seven continents and continuing to travel well into her 90s.
She was an active member of the community and was a member, board member, or president of many organizations including the Mansfield Symphony, YWCA, Wednesday Study Club, AAUW, The Women’s Club, Planned Parenthood and the First Congregational Church. For many years she was a tutor with the Mansfield Public Schools, helping many learning disabled children become successful students.

Above all, she was a loving mother and devoted wife who reared her four children with love, wisdom, independence and joy. Her grandchildren were her delight and they adored her in return. Her dog, Benji, was her constant companion. She is survived by all of her children and their spouses: Susan Bartlett (Marc Kaufman), Edward Bartlett (Katharine Goeldner Bartlett), Margaret Bartlett (Todd Wynward) and Andrew Bartlett (Teresa Barickman), and grandchildren Jonathan, Michele, Claire, Lowell, Anna, and Nico. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Edward Bartlett, her sister Sally White, and her parents Harry Humble Hasler and Mary Hughes Hasler. Helen was a passionate, intelligent, sharp, and determined woman who will be greatly missed but always remembered by her family and friends. A memorial service was held with a reception following at the First Congregational Church in Mansfield, Ohio on June 26, 2016. Donations may be made in her name to the First Congregational Church, Renaissance Theatre, and Planned Parenthood. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home, Taos, NM. Dear Susan, Ed, Peggy and Andy,
When I spoke with Margaret Black yesterday afternoon I learned of Helen's passing. I miss her. She was a remarkable woman-kind, intelligent, engaged, always wanting to learn, a giver and, as you said in the obituary, above all a exemplary mother. She cared about each of you so much and respected each of you as individuals. And, of course, you reciprocated when she needed you. A special thank you to you, Peggy, for making Taos her last home.

My thoughts are with all of you.
Jane Risser

We met Helen when she came to the Reflections Hair Salon on
Friday morning to have her hair done.
She was always so friendly with us and we really enjoyed talking
with her. We looked forward to seeing her each week. She was
so excited when she was about to go on another one of her trips
to see her children.
We will always remember her and feel so happy that we could be
her friend in one small way.

I had the pleasure to get to know Helen while serving on the Planned Parenthood board. She was a leader, mentor and role model for us all - always willing to share her wisdom and ideas, making a difference in the lives of others in our community. How fortunate for us all.
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
