Carol Ann (Beverlin) Cobbs, was born October 28, 1931, the daughter of Carroll and Irene (Emerson) Beverlin and passed away in the home where she was born.
Carol grew up on a farm in Peru and enjoyed working outdoors with her dad. She attended school in Peru and later Winterset, graduating in 1949. She moved to Des Moines and in 1954, began her 27-year career at Braniff Airways, first as a reservations clerk and later as Braniff’s first female District Sales Manager, a major accomplishment. In 1984, Carol and her husband, Gordon moved to Truro, Iowa where she worked as the city clerk for several years. In 2009, she moved to Winterset.
At a very young age, Carol took tap dancing lessons and always had a penchant for drama and the theatre. While in her thirties, she took a role at the Des Moines Play House and later became a member of the Des Moines Civic Center enjoying all manner of plays and concerts. She enthusiastically encouraged her granddaughter, Lindsay to dance, never missing fourteen years of dance recitals.
Carol’s hobbies included vegetable gardening and canning. She was an excellent gourmet cook and was fond of trying new recipes. Her freezer was continually full with little packages of the many dishes she prepared. Her family knew they’d never go hungry with grandmother around.
Carol loved to travel and took pleasure in vacations taken with her parents to Europe, Mexico, and Israel. With her sister, Sandra, she toured the Galapagos Islands. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States and particularly loved touring in Old South. Carol also spent several weeks each winter in Florida at the home of her sister and vacationed with her daughter’s family to Orlando’s Disney World and San Antonio, Texas.
Carol gave her heart to the Lord several years ago and looked forward to a heavenly reunion with her loved ones.
She is survived by her children, Rod (Louise) Rood of Puyallup, WA, Rhonda (Denny) Phillips of Peru, and Randy (Cassie) Rood of Lacona; stepdaughters, Kelsey (Ken) Bruun of Spring, TX and Cindy (John) Meadows of Queen Creek, AZ; her sisters, Sandra Wallace of Cape Coral, FL and Jill (Gerald) Cameron of Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews as well as several close and life-long friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Irene; and her husband, Gordon.

Goodbye Carol. I, as many others, have fond memories of yesteryear. I know Bonnie did too.Our faith says we will meet again, but in the most glorious and heavenly place. A reunion of family and friends and beautiful music. Perhaps you will be dancing. I hope to see you there. God Bless. No more pain and suffering. Praise the Lord for all his blessings!!
